A couple of months back, my girldfriend and I decided to get inspired and move to Canada for a bit this year. We arrived in the fall and I will be based in Montréal most of the time, commuting with Paris as required by upcoming projects in France, and taking the time to make connections and work with new clients here in Canada as well.
One of the reasons was that I wanted to be able to meet with new clients and partners to grow my business, after a short 3-week visit last year. This time I was able to connect back with some of the art buyers I had met last time, and it was wonderful to talk about the news and projects on both sides, in a very relaxed way.
But being here in Canada for a long period of time is also a great opportunity to get inspired visually by other things, and expand my horizons. There is nothing like moving countries and cultures to open your eyes again and be inspired by new ideas.
In particular I have started working on my next personal series: Explorers. This winter, the plan is to take advantage of the snow-clad landscapes of Québec, to shoot the background plates out there in the wilderness. I will then use them later in combination with actual models shot in studio to create the series. I would like to show a personal vision and appeal to the wilderness here in Canada, and how the subconscious mind is so strongly influenced by the country’s geography and “lack” of frontier in the north.
The nature and climate are so wild out there, with immense spaces and natural riches, that it triggers another meaning to the words “explorers” and “survival” entirely.
Join me before it is published
I would love to hear from you if you are either interested in joining for a hike and photo shoot in the snow of some of the National Parks of Québec, or if you would like to recommend any location that you find particularly impressive!
Also, if you are around, if this triggers new ideas for your projects and would like to discuss, or if you simply like the idea of the series and would like to explore how it is actually produced, send me a note so we can connect!
